Fix it Forum – A Structure
INCOMING
- Defining the scope of the work we can accept (what do we do/what do we not do)
- Determine a central point of contact (hopefully using existing resources)
- Defining what the contact process is (phone, website, email, all of the above)
- Record and track the inquiries
- Come up with a way to assign people to that
- Assessment (on site) process – verification that the project fits within scope
- Central project manager – tracking cost, making payment, completion status
PLANNING
- Build network of volunteers
- Establish the priorities of the projects
- Layout plans to complete the job (materials lists, sequencing, codes/permits, volunteer #)
- Centralized warehousing vs. each team purchasing/maintaining their own materials (initially: each team, eventually: centralized warehouse)
- Maintaining depository of a list of past projects to reference
- Website – build your team, pick your project (include important information, skill level, # of volunteers, materials)
- Planning smart, wasting little!
OUTGOING
- Identify contact at each church/agency for centralized volunteer point
- Identify key skill leaders (electrician, contractor, construction PM)
- Online sign-up (skills vs. no skills)
- Look to where success already is (reference other agency models)
- Central database of skills and labor
- Shared online calendar of events
- Pilot the program for short-term (evaluate, tweak, move forward)
- First response team for emergency situations
